Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar Review

by Amy on November 11, 2010 in Chocolate Reviews,Milk Chocolate

The Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar found it’s way in to my hands after my better half ran to the drug store and was convinced by the checkout girl that he could, in fact, be the winner of a golden ticket. A genius marketing technique if ever I saw one because it worked on a man who doesn’t even like chocolate. Proudly he wielded his Scrumdiddlyumptious bar when he walked in the front door…and I have to admit that I was more than a little curious myself.

The Chocolate: Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar

Type of Chocolate: Milk chocolate

Cocoa Content: Unlisted

Best Eaten: With a cold glass of milk

Price: $0.99c

I admit that I, as well as my better half, am easily lured in by shiny paper and promises of golden tickets and I am certain that Wonka a.k.a. Nestle was relying on this fact when they relaunched Wonka bar’s as Wonka “Exceptionals” bars and placed them right at the front of the checkout in every Walgreens.

Taste:

The Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar comes in a bright and shiny purple wrapper with glittering silver sparkles and a huge stamp announcing the possibility of a golden ticket within each bar. As i opened my bar I admit to briefly holding my breath in hopes of finding my golden ticket, instead I was greeted with a very sweet and sugary smell that is fairly commonplace with mass produced milk chocolate.

The Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar is described as containing toffee, cookie and peanut pieces and upon first bite that is exactly what I got. While I found the combination of three such sweet and varying flavors to be a little overwhelming, particularly when combined with such a sickly sweet milk chocolate, I did find the texture to be extremely pleasant. Each small bite crunches with cookie pieces and while peanuts are not discernable from the initial bite after swallowing each bite a few peanut pieces make themselves known underneath my tongue and lodged firmly in my teeth. The milk chocolate itself is nothing particularly astounding, a sugary mass produced confectionery this is exactly what it tastes like, milky and sweet…a little too sweet. The chocolate does not, however, have any waxiness to it and this is a plus, it is a softer milk chocolate that does not resist melting completely on my tongue as I chew each piece thoroughly to avoid choking on any stray peanuts.

The after taste of the Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar is sugary and very sickly sweet. Stray peanut slivers also make themselves known and cause a possibility of choking as they don’t seem to integrate with the chocolate very well at all.

Ingredients:

The ingredients in the Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar include: sugar, cocoa butter, chocolate, nonfat milk, peanuts, milkfat, lactose, butter, rice flour, less than 1% palm oil, soy lecithin, corn flour, modified cornstarch, salt, natural flavors, high fructose corn syrup.

The Bottom Line:

The Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar is more of a candy bar than an actual chocolate bar. The extraordinary sweetness to this chocolate combined with the sheer volume of artificial ingredients make the chocolate itself almost indistinguishable. While the texture is pleasing, the combination of peanut pieces in to this chocolate bar was not done with enough forethought as to effectively join the peanuts with the chocolate and rather they present themselves as an afterthought as well as a very real choking hazard.

Overall Rating:

You can buy Wonka Exceptionals Scrumdiddlyumptious Chocolate Bar from your local Walgreens or in bulk from Amazon.com
