A Week in Chocolate 7/4/10

This week in chocolate news brings a gulf spill made from chocolate, New York Chocolate and Confections Co. sells all of it’s assets, and Barry Callebaut announces an increase in sales after a slump.

First this week Julie Dant an artist from Indiana has begun to recreate the tragedy of the Gulf oil spill by recreating the devastation by photographing individuals covered in chocolate syrup. Julie intends to use all money generated from this project to help a Louisiana family who have lost everything.

Also in chocolate news this week New York Chocolate and Confections Co. has sold all assets for a $2.5 million bid from GoIndustry DoveBid agreed upon in U.S. Bankrupcty Court. GoIndustry is an asset management company so it is assumed that they will be reselling equipment and real estate obtained in the deal. New York Chocolate took over the Fulton plant in question after Nestle closed the factory in 2002.

Lastly this week Barry Callebaut announces an increase in chocolate demand after the latest unexpected slump due to the economic crisis. Barry Callebaut who make chocolate for Nestle and Hershey posted a 7.9 percent rise in sales in the latest report of sales.
