Cream Filled Chocolate

I found the Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte in my trusty local chocolate specialty shop. I have to admit that I was sold on the packaging of this particular bar. So often I am sucked in by the packaging and other non-taste based factors – such as Italian writing, but in the long run it only lead to exposure to new brands of chocolate treats so there really is no harm in buying a book for it’s cover is there?

The Chocolate: Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte

Type of Chocolate: Milk chocolate

Cocoa Content: 33%

Best Eaten: With lightly salted almonds

Price: $2.99

I still remain particularly impressed with the scrolled packaging with Italian writing on it but unfortunately for me the packaging was my favorite part of this bar. The chocolate itself was just not something I would reach for again.

Taste:

The Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte comes in a thick metallic backed wrapper with delicate scroll decoration and Italian wording (turn the wrapper upside down for English nutritional information.) Upon opening the Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte I was met with a thick chocolate scent. Cacao overtones were highlighted with a sharp sugar tint which concerned me slightly due to the creamy milk filling which I anticipated within this bar.

The first bite of the Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte yielded a soft milk chocolate that melted on my fingers as I bit in to one of the three medium sized pieces. While the chocolate is thick and milky the cacao scent that I smelled upon opening this bar was overshadowed completely by the milky center of the bar. The milk based center is extremely sugary and has a heavy milk taste to it with no hint of vanilla. I find the filling to be far too sugary and overpowering to really make this chocolate appealing as a whole. The chocolate flavor is completely buried underneath an overly sugared milk cream filling and even with a modest amount of the filling within the milk chocolate shell the richness of this bar is too overwhelming. The over all taste of this bar can be summarized with one of it’s ingredients: condensed sweetened whole milk.

The after taste of the Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte is sugary and milky and not at all pleasant. I recommend reaching for a lightly salted almond to cleanse the palate after eating this bar.

Ingredients:

The ingredients in the Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte include: milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, cocoa mass, emulsifier: soya lecithin, natural vanilla flavor), glucose syrup, whole milk powder, concentrated butter, condensed sweetened whole milk – 9% fat (milk, sugar) emulsifier- soya lecithin.

The Bottom Line:

The Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte is not a chocolate that I would reach for again. The filling of this bar was far too sickly and the complete experience of eating this bar can be likened to drinking a mouthful of sweetened condensed milk which is not something I tend to make a habit of. It may be that Venchi Unico has other chocolate bars that would appeal to my tastes but this one certainly does not.

Overall Rating:

You can buy Venchi Unico Puro Cioccolato Crema Al Latte from your local specialty chocolate shop or by ordering online direct from Venchi.

I have always loved novelty chocolates whether they are holiday chocolates or movie themed chocolates I just can’t help myself. I have not yet jumped on the Twilight wagon but when I saw this Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire chocolate novelty I had to pick up one and give it a shot. Besides it’s a Skybar product and I haven’t seen a Skybar for years!

The Chocolate: Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire

Type of Chocolate: Milk Chocolate

Cocoa Content: Unlisted

Best Eaten: With lightly salted almonds

Price: $0.50/bar

The Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar may seem like just another Twilight novelty but for Skybar lovers everywhere this is a throwback to times past.

Taste:

The Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar comes wrapped in a small plastic wrapper which features one of the Twilight New Moon characters on the front. When I picked up this particular bar there were Jacob, Bella and Edward still on the shelves. The initial smell of the Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar is one of sweet milk chocolate, it is not a heavy scent but a lighter one.

My first bite of the Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar is a sticky and overly sweet combination of milk chocolate and vanilla cream. Rather than a thicker vanilla cream that resides within the traditional chocolate box this bar is a soggy and almost caramel textured vanilla cream. The chocolate itself is thin and extremely loaded with sugar, there is no trace of cocoa flavor at all just milk and sugar. The filling of the bar is a diabetics nightmare and akin to eating a spoon full of sugar covered in milk chocolate. The chocolate melts too quickly and the filling is so messy that it goes absolutely everywhere with each bite of the bar.

The aftertaste of the Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar is again just like eating a spoon full of sugar, excessively sweet and it leaves a strong sugary aftertaste that is far too sweet.

Ingredients:

The ingredients in the Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar include: Milk chocolate (sugar, whole milk, cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, soy lecithin, vanillin (artificial flavor)), sugar, corn syrup, invert sugar, artificial flavor, salt, egg whites, invertase (an enzyme).

The Bottom Line:

The Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar is a novelty and can pass as nothing else but a novelty. Ideal as a stocking stuffer for a Twilight lover this candy is nothing more than sugar wrapped in more sugar and it contains absolutely no trace of cocoa flavor. This is by far one of the worst chocolate novelties I have ever reviewed and I would definitely not try it again.

Overall Rating:

You can purchase the Skybar Twilight New Moon Heart’s Desire bar from your local Riteaid drugstore or via Amazon.com!
