I found the Sunspire Sun Drops at my local health food grocery store. I have previously reviewed the Sunspire chocolate covered raisins and cranberries so I was interested to see how these M&M type candies measured up.
The Chocolate: Sunspire Sun Drops
Type of Chocolate: Milk chocolate
Cocoa Content: Unlisted
Best Eaten: With a Glass of Cold Milk
Price: $1.39
The Sunspire Sun Drops are a natural alternative to M&M’s made from all natural ingredients with no artificial additives and in my opinion taste no different to the commercial alternative.
Taste:
The Sunspire Sun Drops come in a small 1 3/16 ounce bag with the bright Sunspire logo on the front and a small window through which you can observe the colorful candy. Upon opening the bag the initial scent is one of muted chocolate, a chocolate that is not too sweet but it carries enough chocolate scent to be appetizing.
As I take a few of the Sunspire Sun Drops in my hand they feel much like M&M’s only a little fatter. As I put a few of the Sunspire Sun Drops in to my mouth and bite in to them I am amazed at how much they taste like real M&M’s and yet they are made with no artificial ingredients. The sugary shell makes a pleasant popping noise as I bite in to it and the the chocolate inside is delicious and rich. The chocolate is just enough to give a flavorful chocolate experience in just a single piece of the candy. There is a distinct lack of artificial flavor in the Sunspire Sun Drops, there is no milky aftertaste and no unpleasant sugary stickiness that follows.
The aftertaste of the Sunspire Sun Drops is a deep chocolate flavor that is sweet but not overly so.
Ingredients:
The ingredients in the Sunspire Sun Drops include: Center (Dried cane juice & unsulphured molasses, whole milk powder, cocoa butter, unsweetened chocolate, soy lecithin [emulsifier], pure natural vanilla), Shell (Turbinado sugar, whole rice solids, natural color added [including beet juice, beta carotene & caramel], vegetable & beeswax, pure food glaze [without sugar]).
The Bottom Line:
The Sunspire Sun Drops are a very flavorful natural alternative to a commercial candy. There is a surprising similarity between the Sunspire Sun Drops and M&M’s candy and with the prior being a healthier they make the perfect snack for a health conscious family that doesn’t want to deprive their youngsters of a sweet candy experience.

I enjoyed this review. I love chocolate covered anything, but I am always looking for healtier varieties. I have no health stores near me so I will have to go to their website and see all that they have to offer.
“Healthy” M & Ms? These sound wonderful! I wish they had a store locator on their website, though, so I wouldn’t have to search every health store in the area….I wonder if the Sunspire Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups taste like Reese’s?
this is wonderful to hear! I (used to) love M&Ms and miss them a lot. Good to see a healthy alternative!
