I found the Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp in the overflowing chocolate aisle in my local Target. Being that I am a lover of all things Ghirardelli I couldn’t keep my hands off this bar and decided to put it under the scrutiny of an En Chocolat review. The Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp is a milk chocolate bar with rice pieces inside it, much like a higher quality Nestle Crunch chocolate bar.

I am rather partial to a few brands of chocolate with Guylian being my all time favorite brand but Ghirardelli is also up there in the top ten. The Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp with the incorporation of crisp rice pieces has to be one of my favorite Ghirardelli blends that I have tried so far.
Taste:
The Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp comes wrapped inside a gold foil inside a thick paper wrapping. The back of the wrapper details the steps that Ghirardelli uses to maintain the quality of their chocolate. Upon opening the chocolate I am greeted with a sweet milk chocolate scent but one that is heavy with the taste of cocoa and not overpowered by the sheer amount of sugar used in the chocolate making process.
The first bite of the Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp yields the soft milky chocolate that I expect from Ghirardelli. A chocolate that melts in your mouth coating your tongue with a thick milky flavor and yet the chocolate is still firm to each bite and does not simply melt around my teeth when I bite in to each piece. The inclusion of rice cereal gives this chocolate a pleasant crunch and an overall texture that is particularly satisfying. A chocolate should have substance to it even without the inclusion of rice cereal, it should crunch or at least pop when bitten and with or without the rice cereal Ghirardelli chocolate does this. Despite having a thick and milky taste to it this chocolate bar still has a lingering echo of cocoa to it, something reminiscent of a dark cup of cocoa and thankfully it lingers.
The after taste of the Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp is pleasant, there is a slight sweetness and yet not one that is sickly or overly sugared.
Ingredients:
The ingredients in the Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp include: milk chocolate (sugar, whole milk powder, cocoa butter, unsweetened chocolate, soy lecithin – an emulsifier, vanilla,) crisp rice (milled rice, sugar, salt, barley malt.)
The Bottom Line:
The Ghirardelli Luxe Milk Crisp is everything a high middle class chocolate should be, a thick and creamy texture with no overpowering sugary sweetness. I also particularly like Ghirardelli’s stance on allergens in their chocolate – each potential allergen is written in bold within the ingredient list as well as marked with a separate paragraph below.
