Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from Brazil Review

Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from BrazilI found Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from Brazil at a local specialty chocolate store. I have to admit that I hesitated when I picked this bar up because while I adore chocolate I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of peppercorns. That said, I thought that in the interest of being a good reviewer of chocolate that I would try everything within reason, and who knows it could have been the best chocolate combination that I ever tasted…as it happens, it was not. Not by a long shot.

This mini Belgian made chocolate bar may seduce with it’s brightly colored wrapping or it’s exotic sounding combination but don’t let that fool you in to the worst chocolate experience of your life.

Taste:

The Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from Brazil can easily trick you in to believing that it is a delicious chocolate choice, after all the chocolate is made in Belgium and we all know how creamy and delicious Belgian chocolate is. The problem with this chocolate, however, occurs when you throw pink peppercorns in to the mix. Someone, somewhere along the way perhaps believed that since salt and dark chocolate go so well together that pepper and dark chocolate would go together just as well – they were sorely mistaken.

Upon opening the packet of chocolate there is a musky smell of peppercorn. This should be your first tip off that Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from Brazil is not going to be what you expected at all, the distinct lack of a chocolate scent should be your second. Disregarding this fact I opened the chocolate anyway and praying to the powers that be that I would be pleasantly surprised I took a bite, albeit a small one. As I went through the motions of chewing every fiber of my being was begging me to spit out the peppery concoction that was filling my mouth with it’s musky smell and appalling taste. Somehow I managed to swallow. Unfortunately I can tell you nothing in regard to the texture of this chocolate bar because in all honesty I was so desperately trying to get rid of it from my mouth that I have no recollection of texture at all.

The after taste of the Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from Brazil is peppery. In my biased opinion I will tell you that it is the single most disgusting chocolate mixture I have ever tasted, akin to taking a mouth full of peppercorns and chewing them.

Ingredients:

The ingredients in the Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from Brazil include: cocoamass, sugar, cocoa butter, pink peppercorns, natural vanilla, emulsifier: soya lecithin.

The Bottom Line:

It turns out that being adventurous with chocolate choices does not always lead to pleasant surprises – sometimes things are just as disgusting as they sound. I was sorely disappointed with the Dolfin Dark Chocolate with Pink Peppercorns from Brazil and even as I reminisce about reviewing it I combat a feeling of nausea which I have never felt when eating any chocolate before. It is a shame that I could not taste more of the chocolate itself in this exotic bar because I hear it on good authority that Dolfin chocolate is actually quite delicious.

Overall Rating: half bean
